In order to ensure that users have full control over their data, WeWrite intends to make it easy to export (and import) your full collection of writings in Markdown format.

Also, to prevent any risk of shutdown or censorship by governments which do not protect free speech, WeWrite aims to build an open protocol that anybody else can use (similar to how email is built atop the IMAP protocol), and WeWrite as a company / entity will exist to further develop the protocol and to provide the first front-end experience to interact with the protocol.
